What this involves
A website is judged on a phone, on a mediocre connection, by somebody who did not plan to visit. That is the condition we build for: server-rendered where it matters, no more JavaScript than the page needs, and layout that does not shift while it loads. Performance is treated as a requirement with numbers attached, not an optimisation pass bolted on at the end.
Accessibility is handled the same way. Focus order, colour contrast, keyboard operation and screen-reader semantics are decided while the interface is being built, because retrofitting them means rewriting components rather than adjusting them. We target WCAG 2.2 AA.
What you receive is a codebase another developer could pick up next year without dread. Conventional structure, meaningful names, and documentation written for a stranger rather than for the person who wrote it.

- How much does a website cost?
- At Joltwise you set the budget and the scope is fitted to it. Instead of a rate card, we ask what the work is worth to you, then put in writing what fits inside that figure and what does not, before anything begins. That removes hourly surprises and scope that quietly grows.
- What are Core Web Vitals and why do they matter?
- Core Web Vitals are Google’s measurements of loading speed, responsiveness and visual stability, chiefly Largest Contentful Paint, Interaction to Next Paint and Cumulative Layout Shift. They matter because Google counts them among its ranking signals, and because they describe what a visitor actually experiences while waiting for a page.
- Can you work on a website somebody else built?
- Yes. We review what exists and say honestly whether repairing or rebuilding is the better use of your money, rather than defaulting to a rebuild. Picking up an unfamiliar codebase, improving its performance, fixing accessibility or migrating it off an unsupported stack is ordinary work here.
- Who owns the code when the project ends?
- You do, entirely. Source code, repositories, hosting accounts, domains and API keys are transferred to you at handover with documentation written for someone who has never seen the project. We are glad to keep maintaining it, but you should never be locked in because leaving would be painful.
- What does WCAG 2.2 AA mean?
- WCAG 2.2 AA is the level of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines most commonly written into law and procurement policy. In practice it covers colour contrast, keyboard operation, focus visibility, minimum target sizes and text alternatives. Between them they decide whether a site is usable by someone with a disability.
